On Friends

What measures the strength of a friendship? What defines the closeness of two friends? What makes some friends better than others?

Is a friendship defined by how much time you spend together? By how often you see each other? By how much time you spend on the phone when you’re away from each other?

Is it defined by loyalty? Devotion? By whether you’re ready to stand by someone when they need you, regardless of how much time has passed?

Is friendship defined by tolerance? Forgiveness of each other’s mistakes? Encouragement and support to improve as a human being?

Is the quality of a friendship measured by how much you have in common? How relatable you are to each other? How well you can understand each other’s passions and experiences?

Or, is friendship measured in love, however that may be expressed… of which everything listed above is a symptom?
